Reading, Writing, Communication, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies/History, the Arts - theater, drama, visual, and music, and Health/Fitness comprise core learning requirements.

Aligned with Washington State's Essential Academic Learning Requirements and national standards, teaching and assessment ensures the learning of skills and processes for application in school and life.

The use of Technology, Library/Media services are infused in course content as are thinking, reasoning, and problem solving.

Life Skills of respect, responsibility, self-control, honesty and trustworthiness, cooperation, and citizenship are a part of learning and the way people work with one another.

Career and Technical Education, Special Services programs, and varied course offerings provide a range of opportunities to learn, develop skills, and explore interests.

Assessment

Student growth in learning is assessed through paper and pencil, performance, and portfolio assessments. Assessments required by state regulations are:

  • WASL (Washington Assessment of Student Learning), Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, at grades 4, 7, & 10.
  • WASL Science at grades 5, 8, & 10 beginning 2004 & 05.
  • 2nd Grade Reading
  • WLPT (Washington Language Proficiency Test) for English Language Learners
