College Bound Scholarship

Introducing Carrie Morrison, the new College Bound Regional Officer with the Washington College Access Network, which is housed under the umbrella of College Success Foundation. Carrie, who will be serving the NEWESD 101 region, will be working closely with school-based counselors in our region on increasing the sign-up and application completion rates for students who may qualify to receive the College Bound Scholarship. The College Bound Scholarship is a program aimed at closing the achievement gap for students experiencing poverty and thus, Carrie will serve as a valuable resource for school staff, families, and community members in their efforts to promote post-secondary education for all students.

In these uncertain times, the College Success Foundation, in partnership with the Washington Student Achievement Council, recognizes the importance of affording students additional time to apply for financial aid opportunities as they and their families grapple with, and adjust to, the economic strain which COVID-19 has placed on households. As such, the deadline application for the College Bound Scholarship has been extended to November 30, 2020 for our recently graduated 8th grade students, heading into 9th grade in the fall. The College Bound Scholarship program is an early commitment of state financial aid to help cover tuition costs at over 60 institutions throughout Washington. Students who are eligible, and who sign up in middle school and fulfill the scholarship pledge, can access this scholarship upon high school graduation. For the College Bound Scholarship, a special exception to the deadlines will be made for students required to sign a pledge to establish eligibility during eighth or ninth grade in the 2019-20 school year. This is due to the statewide school closure that was ordered under the state of emergency declared in response to the coronavirus pandemic. For these students only, the deadline to complete an application will be extended until November 30, 2020. For more information on how you can assist your students in accessing this scholarship for their post secondary future, please contact NEWESD 101 College Bound Regional Officer, Carrie Morrison, at(cmorrison@wcan.org).
