Volunteers from the Colville DNR visited CHS today and taught Forestry students how to deploy a fire shelter. Fire shelters are used by wildland firefighters as a last resort for survival when they are trapped by flames with no way out. We are thankful to those who volunteer their time for our students!

Colville High School sent two teams to the FFA Potato Judging contest in Moses Lake this week. Students who participate develop the ability to evaluate potato products to optimize economic returns for producers and industry, as well as meeting customer needs. FFA members take a written exam that tests their knowledge of potato storage, grading, pests and diseases. Members will identify potato varieties as they become not only better agriculturalists but also better consumers. Our students participated against 198 individuals and a total of 43 teams. Payton Emra placed 10th and Kylee Dyar placed 3rd individually. Colville 1 placed 7th and Colville 2 placed 36th in the team division. Way to go Hawks!

On October 30, CHS teachers Mrs. Peterman and Mrs. Flugel took 30 seniors on a driving tour of the University of Idaho campus and a walking tour of the WSU campus. Students had the opportunity to tour the library and bookstore as well as the academic and recreational areas on the WSU campus. They even ate at a dining facility in a residence hall for an authentic college experience. It was a great opportunity for seniors to see that college is accessible to them, and the icing on the cake was to run into several CHS graduates! Two of them, Ella Purvis and Raymond Danekas, even volunteered to be our tour guides!!!
