FFA Forestry Team

The Colville High School FFA Forestry Team, the 2025 Washington State Champions, will represent Washington State this week at the National FFA Forestry Career Development Event in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Team members Kendra Lewis, Kelsea Lewis, Colton Hanson, Hailey Leaden, and Patrick Wolf earned their state title last spring after years of hard work, study, and dedication. Winning at the state level is a remarkable achievement that few teams accomplish, and this group has now earned the opportunity to compete among the best in the nation.

FFA Forestry challenges students to develop skills and knowledge related to the forestry industry, including forest management, environmental stewardship, tree identification, and silvicultural practices. Competitors learn about the economic, environmental, and social factors that impact forests, gaining hands-on experience with real-world tools and management strategies.

Part of the team’s success can be attributed to their advisor, Mrs. Ivy Nelson, whose commitment to her students extends far beyond the classroom. She spends countless hours mentoring, coaching, and connecting students with forestry professionals in the community. This year marks Mrs. Nelson’s fourth forestry team to qualify for Nationals, a testament to her expertise and passion for agricultural education.

The trip to Indianapolis has been made possible through the generous support of local businesses, community members, school administration, teachers, and parents. Fundraising and donations have helped cover travel costs, allowing the team to focus on preparation for this prestigious event.

Congratulations and best of luck to Mrs. Nelson and the Colville FFA Forestry Team as they represent Washington State on the national stage. Your hard work and dedication make Colville proud! Go Hawks!
